Inventing a GenUI pattern merging Search and an AI assistant, now used by 20+ orgs to unlock innovation
Overview
In 2024, Rufus, Amazon's AI shopping assistant, launched to low engagement because it lived as a separate experience from the Search base page. Its novel capabilities never reached customers where they were already considering a product.
I invented MicroInsights to close that gap: compact, personalized, AI-generated snippets that live on the product card, carry a shopper into the assistant for deeper evaluation through conversation. I documented the scalable pattern, with its guardrails and edge cases, and shipped it to the Rufus design system.
